Who are Arrow?
The vision of the Arrow Foundation is to improve the quality of life of bone marrow and stem cell patients and those who care for them.
At Arrow, our target is clear. We aim to provide personalised support, healthcare training and research funding to help every Australian enduring tough but lifesaving bone marrow and stem cell transplants.
We are the only charity in Australia dedicated to helping bone marrow and stem cell transplant patients. For over 30 years, Arrow has provided support for patients and their carers throughout their treatment and beyond, helped health care professionals further their training, and funded life-saving research into stem cell transplant and cellular therapies.
Everything we do is focused on supporting Australians undergoing life-saving bone marrow and stem cell transplants. From the moment of diagnosis and throughout recovery, we’re here to help patients and their families navigate the challenges that come with treatment.
Each year, around 2,000 Australians undergo a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. These treatments save lives, but they are also among the most physically and emotionally challenging a person can face, often involving long hospital stays, isolation from loved ones, and years of recovery.
Arrow exists to support every transplant patient through their transplant journey, every step of the way.
Arrow’s Patient Support Program
Arrow’s Patient Support Program provides practical, emotional and educational support to patients who have undergone a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, helping ease the significant pressures faced throughout treatment.
Our support includes:
Financial assistance ($500 per patient) – tailored help for patients and families experiencing hardship, covering essential costs
Emotional support – our virtual “Transplant Tribe” support Education – monthly webinars, podcasts, and informational guides
Bone marrow and stem cell transplants are life-saving but involve intensive, prolonged treatment and recovery. Patients often face extended hospital stays, isolation, ongoing complications, and frequent appointments. Many are unable to work, while carers often reduce or stop employment. Families may also need to relocate closer to treatment and manage ongoing travel costs. The financial impact is significant, adding to the physical and emotional strain experienced by patients, families, and carers many of whom have no other support.
